Small Talk is a practice app: you have a spoken conversation with a character and get an honest read on how it went. It is made by Pratik Juta (“we”, “us”). This page says what the app keeps, where it goes, and how to get it removed.
Every conversation is recorded. The recording contains your voice and the character’s voice.
We keep the audio indefinitely. It is not deleted after your score is worked out.
We use it to improve the scoring. That includes checking whether scores are fair, and building new kinds of feedback in future, such as feedback on tone of voice.
You can have your recordings deleted at any time. Here’s how.
Each conversation is also turned into a written transcript. We store the transcript, which room you were in, when the conversation started and ended, how it ended, and the timing of when you were speaking. The transcript is scored, and the score is what you see on your result card.
Scoring is done by our own code, not by a person reading your transcript. We may read transcripts ourselves when checking that the scoring is working correctly.
The conversation itself is different: the character’s replies are written by an AI language model, so what you say during a conversation is processed by that model. Details below.
Our servers see your IP address when the app connects, as every website does. We use it briefly to stop the service being overloaded, and do not use it to identify you.
A few companies do part of the work. Each receives only what it needs for that job.
Open the app, tap About at the top of the room list, and tap Request deletion. That opens an email to hello@trysmalltalk.io with your install ID already filled in.
There is no account, so the install ID is how we find your conversations. It is a random code created when you install the app. Every conversation you save carries it, and it is not linked to your name, your Apple ID, or anything else about you. You can also copy it from the About screen and email it yourself.
Deleting the app starts a new install ID next time, so request deletion before you delete the app. If you have already deleted it, email us anyway with roughly when you practised (dates, and times if you remember them, with your time zone) and which rooms you played, and we will find what we can.
We will delete the matching recordings, transcripts and scores from our systems and from ElevenLabs and Supabase, and reply to confirm once it is done. We do this within 30 days of your request.
Deleting the app removes your onboarding answers and anything else stored on your phone. It does not delete recordings or transcripts already saved on our side — for those, email us.
Small Talk is not meant for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them. If you think a child has used the app, email us and we will delete their conversations.
If this policy changes, we will update this page and the date at the top. If a change affects how your recordings are used, we will say so in the app.
